It is estimated that, of the more than 135 million children born on the planet each year, some 4 million will die during the first year as a result of congenital heart disease.

One in every 33 live newborns is affected by a congenital anomaly, which in turn generates 3.2 million disabilities per year and, according to the World Health Organization, approximately 434 000 deaths due to congenital defects, including heart disease.

This is largely due to inadequate  first-year  cares, with 97% of these cases occuring in low and middle income countries like Colombia, where only 2,434 of 7,021 children needing treatment receive it (34,7%).

Since 1966, Cardio VID Clinic offers  health services to children and families in need, focusing in the treatment of pediatric heart, lung and chest disseases, becoming one of the few institutions in Colombia to target this this specific situation.

Disseases such as the single ventricle defects are only treated by two institutions in the country, one of them being Cardio VID.

Between 2019 and 2024, at Cardio VID we performed more than 2.800 pediatric surgeries and cared for an average of 404 hospitalized children and teens per year, and treated more than 390 of them in our pediatric and neonatal ICU.
